A word from our new Community Lay Director
Mike van Rensburg
Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his surpassing greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that breathes praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! -Psalm 150 (NRSV)
January 2008 has come and gone and it seems as if life is moving faster every year. It is a privilege and honour to be contributing to the newsletter as CLD for the first time.
May I take a moment and share the following with you: A few weeks ago someone in our Friday morning men’s group mentioned that we need to become Negative about negativity. He didn’t suggest that we bury our heads in the sand and pretend as if everything was great, but rather to look at all the mishaps and change our attitude in how we handle what life throws at us. I found that if we focus on God and praise Him as the Psalmist does, then the whole world takes on a new meaning and with God at the helm, we can ride out any storm.
Does everyone know that Chrysalis is starting to happen in our community? I am sure you are as excited as I am!!! A Chrysalis Steering Committee got under way and a lot of organising and planning is taking place. Keep them in your prayers and please get in touch with them. They always need extra hands. The planning suggests that the first “flights” and “journey” will take place towards the end of this year. “Flights” are for youth from 16 – 18 and “journey” is aimed at single people from 18 – 25.
Walk #37 and Walk #38 with Deon van der Merwe and Jenny van Niekerk as the respective LD’s are well under way. Teams are in place and the first training day is on 8 March. The weekend training venue has moved to St Luke’s which is close to St George’s Park. Each and every community member has a role to play in Walks 37 & 38. Have you asked God to lead you to a prospective pilgrim?
Please be actively involved in your church community. Your Walk’s main function was to grow you as a leader in your church. That said, remember that PE Emmaus also needs you. Next year this community is ten years old and it has sustained and grown as a result of community involvement.
I’m ending off with “Praise the Lord”. Let everything that breathes praise the LORD! The world takes on new meaning when we have God as our focus. Then it is so much easier to become negative about negativity.
May God Bless you in all that you do.
