Newsflash October 2017
of Appreciation, appeals and AGMs
Of appreciation, appeals and AGMs
As we enjoy the reality of spring and the promise of some rest and relaxation in the coming months, it is time to reflect upon our many blessings as the Port Elizabeth Emmaus Community. You can read the full report of our year to date on the following link www.pe-emmaus.co.za/downloads/file/pdf/cld_report_2017.pdf .
Suffice to say, however, that the Lord blessed us with successful flights and walks and in many other areas, as we continue to strive towards our mission of becoming
A vibrant, financially viable Christian Community
offering regular fellowship and other opportunities
before and after full Flights and Walks in growing God’s kingdom
The post-walk gathering of Walks 69 and 70 at St John’s Church, Walmer, on 14 October, hosted about 180 PE Emmaus Community members. We enjoyed great praise and worship, heard wonderful testimonies and enjoyed the usual fellowship of an Emmaus bring ‘n share lunch.
As such, many community members signed up there and then to become part of team for Walks 71 and 72 from May 10 – 13 (Men with Russell Richards as Lay Director) and May 17 to 20 (Women with Lynn Forman as Lay Director).
With 18 women and 16 men already committed to work, please apply soonest to serve by going to https://www.pe-emmaus.co.za/teamformation.php The cost is R950. Training on 14 and 15 April and on 21 April is compulsory.
We continue to knock at the door of your finances in growing the monthly pledges that we receive to enable the growth of the Emmaus ministry. Many of us are unlikely to miss R50 a month, and so we are appealing to you to consider a monthly stop order to:

PE Emmaus Community
The PE Community will be sending a tithe to the national body, and also supporting #EmmausGives and #Giving Tuesday on 28 November in line with the Lord’s call to give, and to do so, gladly. The #Giving Tuesday initiative goes directly towards the establishment of new Emmaus Ministry communities around the globe.
The PE Emmaus Community held its AGM on 14 October, announcing three new Board appointments from January 2018:
We express our appreciation to Erica Sing Key, Hilary Viljoen and Lynn Forman for their unstinting commitment, talent and service to the Board over the past three years. They will continue to work on the sub-committees in a mentoring capacity towards ensuring continuity.
- Sugnee van der Vyver as supplies and logistics co-ordinator
- Alwylene Allwright in the training portfolio, and
- Chantel de Koning as treasurer
On the subject of AGMs, please pray for the forthcoming national EMSA AGM hosted by the Gloriosa Community from November 2 to 5 in Benoni. The PE Emmaus Community will host this event in 2019, when we turn 20.
And finally ….
