PE Emmaus Newsflash

Looking back and ahead

As we near the end of 2017, let us briefly reflect and acknowledge our many blessing as the PE Emmaus Community.

We had sets of successful Flights and Walks, enjoyed many fellowship opportunities (from a camping weekend through to three trivia evenings) and raised a rand or three. We did so through the grace of God, and we thank Him especially for the many butterflies and pilgrims who are now growing God’s kingdom in their own communities.

The year ahead

2018 promises to be another blessed year as the PE Emmaus Community. We invite you to be a part of it in some form or another.

2018 Walks

With May Walks and training dates already in place, you are encouraged to sign up now to work on team or sponsor a pilgrim or two. Some 22 women and 18 men have already committed to work, so do not miss out on the opportunity to serve in this exciting ministry.

A team selection meeting is planned next week to discern roles and responsibilities in preparing for Walk 71 from 10 to 13 May and Walk 72 from 17 to 20 May. Go online for training dates and the application form https://www.pe-emmaus.co.za/teams.php

Camping Weekend

Stake your claim - your campsite - now for the camping weekend at Sitrusoewer, near Kirkwood, in the Sundays River Valley from 23 to 25 February 2018 by contacting our registrar Charmaine Potgieter on ( registrar@pe-emmaus.co.za) soonest. We’d like to fill the entire campsite as we did last year, but we need confirmations soonest to ensure this. The rates are R100 per adult and R60 per child per night but payment is only for next year.

EMSA feedback

The PE Emmaus Community is one of 13 such communities in South Africa, and about three in Africa. Annually, the South African Emmaus communities meet to engage, debate and hear from the Upper Room in America where the Emmaus movement was conceived.  While there are challenges nationally, the impact of Emmaus as a tool in empowering people for their churches and communities is so encouraging.

We will be hosting this AGM and indaba in 2019 and will spend 2018 planning towards this. Be part of the organizing team by contacting Stella Swanson on desiderata@wol.co.za

Giving Tuesday 28 November

#GivingTuesday is when Emmaus communities around the globe are asked to invest in establishing new and emerging Emmaus communities. We are asked to do so financially and in prayer. Our community has tithed to this initiative and I ask that we pray, especially for the formation of new communities in Africa.

Christmas blessings

On behalf of the PE Emmaus Board, let me wish you all a blessed Christmas season and hopefully a good break. Rest, relax and reconnect with family and friends.
