"A funny thing happened on the way to Emmaus "!
Enjoy, with us, some of the Real true stories
- that really, really happened on Emmaus Walks!
Some will remember the “smoking donkey” at Waverley Hills. The dear old resident ‘grandpa’ used to get up around 3am to stoke the fire in the ‘donkey’ to heat the water for the cloakrooms. What a blessing he was …. but oh the thick, black smoke we had to choke through .. but, as they say .. no pain, no gain!!
Then there was the REAL donkey, at Waverley Hills, the one that had the bell around its neck … walking up and down the fence day and night with his bell clanging — confusing many a pilgrim when the melodeous bell went missing! Oh the sleepless nights we endured [and missed when we moved to Sumcay].
Remember the time when the men on Support had to dash around to catch a real rooster, inconspicuously and silently, for the musos to carry into the Conference Room to teach De Colores on the Friday morning!?
And then there was the bright spark who set the Styrofoam Las Mananitas tray alight when lighting the birthday candle, one Sunday morning. Do you know how fast such a tray can burn, dissolve, disintegrate?! What a crazy scramble to quickly put together a replacement tray for that pilgrim!!
I do have some more stories up my sleeve, but if you have any to share with the wider community, please let me have them, so that we can continue to enjoy our True Story column.
