Of sponsorship, sweets and bingo!
‘Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant!’
Are you planting seeds in growing God’s kingdom through your actions? You can do so in so many ways as part of the PE Emmaus community. You can sponsor a pilgrim, deposit some dough, donate some sweets, cool drinks, chips and/or pray …
Sponsorship of pilgrims for Walks 73 and 74
Sponsorship is the key to the ongoing success of the PE Community’s Walks and Flight, but more especially in equipping the church with pilgrims who are re-energised and better placed to serve as a result of their 72-hour experience.
18 women and six men have already been accepted as pilgrims. With the cut-off date set for mid-August and forms coming in daily, do not delay your approach of those you have discerned to sponsor. The sponsorship forms can be found on http://www.pe-emmaus.co.za/applicationforms.php
The Board welcomes Gary Williams as the new Lay Director of Walk 73, following the withdrawal of Theodore Hockey because of unforeseen work commitments. We thank Gary for stepping in and joining Erica Sing Key (Walk 74) in leading the next set of walks in line with the Upper Room’s guidelines.
Sweets and other treats
The Community is calling for any sweets, chips, biscuits, candles, tissues and A4 exercise books for these September Walks to off-set the growing costs of hosting the walks and to help with planning. Please alert the Lay Directors soonest by contacting email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org
Christmas in July Tea
Staying with all things sweet, the mid-year fun-raising tea was a great success as love, fellowship and a fallen Christmas fairy took centre stage. Kathy Balshaw’s Five Love Languages talk was well received, as was the money raised – R11420 – towards the hosting of Walks and next year’s Emmaus Ministry of South Africa (EMSA) AGM at Willows in November 2019.
Chinese food and bingo evening
Why not gather a group of 10 friends (they do not need to have done the Emmaus Walk) together for a fun evening of bingo and authentic Chinese food at St Francis Xavier, in Jade Road, Kabega, on Saturday 25 August at 6pm for 6.30pm? You have only to sell 10 tickets at R100 each. Tea and cool drinks will be on sale. Contact Debbie Derry on email@example.com soonest.
The winner of the Karoo lamb is Andre Steyn from Cannon Rocks, the wors, Everest van Eck (the American grandson of the Van Ecks), and Mary Yoell wins the droe wors and biltong. The funds raised will be shared in the next newsflash.3
The PE Emmaus is hosting a breakfast for clergy at Westering Methodist Church on 11 August at 8am to encourage clergy to continue promoting the benefits of the Walk and Chrysalis Flights. Contact our Community Spiritual Director Rev Andrea Potgieter on firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
There are two Board vacancies from 2019 – secretary and agape. Perhaps this is where God is calling you? Contact email@example.com or any of the Board members if you would like to know more about the roles and responsibilities relating to these positions.
